New Zealand

These charming place through the eyes of two lovers.

We are a young Hungarian couple currently traveling in New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia. We are really interested in the hidden treasures a place has to effer and always try to walk off the beaten track. Hitch-hiking and Couchsurfing let us get to know many locals and fellow travels and also help better immerse into foreign cultures.

After two serious earthquakes had shaken Christchurch and destroyed the bigger part of the city center, temporary buildings were raised. The container mall gives home to nice little local shops and bars during the rebuilding period.

When visiting New Zealand, no one should miss the famous vineyards of Marlborough region. Many cellars offer free tasting of their great selection of red and white wines.

Lake Tekapo and the surrounding area have one of the most beautiful sceneries in the South Island. Many hiking routes lead to hilltops around the lake from where there is an amazing view to the region.

Queenstown is the extreme sport capital of New Zealand - it tells a lot that bungee jumping was invented in this region. Those who want their adrenalin fix can choose canyon swing or rafting, while those who prefer a quiet afternoon can go for a nice cable car ride up the hills.

New Zealand is famous for its diverse flora; good selections are found in botanic gardens. This beautiful aloe vera plant is in the Wellington Botanic Garden which is just a short walk from the city center.

Whangarei is a good place for nature lovers with its various landcapes. Head for Whangarei Heads for the best beaches and hiking routes and leave an hour to discover Whangarei Falls located in the middle of a scenic reserve.

Visiting Hobbiton is a must for every Lord of the Rings fan. The set of the movie is well preserved and can be visited through guided tours - there is even a surprise at the end!
